Route Description

Gibbons is a popular beginner trad climb at Murrin Park in Squamish. The route follows a straightforward crack system with excellent gear placements throughout, making it perfect for those learning to place trad gear or looking for a scenic moderate climb.

This route offers great exposure with views over Howe Sound and is often recommended as a first lead at Murrin Park.

Route Details

  • First Ascent: Unknown (established 1990s)
  • Gear: Standard rack to #2 Camalot (stopper nuts recommended)
  • Approach: 3-minute walk from Murrin Park parking lot
  • Descent: Walk off via trail or lower with 60m rope
  • Best Season: March through October (can be wet in early spring)

Local Tips

  • Great place to practice gear placement - plenty of solid cracks
  • Can be busy on weekends - consider weekday visits for solitude
  • Watch for vegetation in the crack during spring months
  • Combine with other Murrin Park classics like Jensen's Crack for a full area session
